SYDNEY believes it will enter uncharted territory when the AFL club takes part in this year's 40th Mardi Gras Parade.
Swans players and coaches were involved in the parade in recent years, joining athletes from other sports in a stand against homophobia
But this year Sydney will have its own float, which may make it the first professional sporting team to do so.
The Swans also held the first Pride Game for premierships points in Sydney last year.
Sydney chief executive and managing director Andrew Ireland said he was excited to have the club part of the Mardi Gras Parade.
"The 40th anniversary is a special year for the Mardi Gras and we're really proud of being, we believe, the first professional sporting team to have a float in the Mardi Gras Parade," Ireland said.
"LGBTI Pride is one of the four pillars of our Diversity Action Plan, which outlines our commitments to inclusion.
"We want to be an inclusive club and we want everyone to feel welcome at the football. It's about making people feel welcome, safe and included."
Sarina Jackson, chairman of Sydney's official LGBTI supporter group the Rainbow Swans, welcomed the club's involvement in the Mardi Gras event.
