Chris Scott believes the win over the Dogs may have been the Cats best game of the season, as they booted 23 goals in a dominant display.

"I think it's the most complete performance we've put together [this season]," the coach said of the victory over Rodney Eade's stuggling line-up.

One of the highlights of the afternoon came when Scott moved champion defender Matthew Scarlett to full-forward during the final quarter.

Scarlett grasped the opportunity by taking a pack mark and booting just the 17th goal of his career.

"We're still experimenting with our forward set-up and there are going to be times in games when we need one of our three key defenders to go forward," Scott explained.

"We were happy with the role that Taylor and Lonergan were playing, so Scarlo was the one that slipped out.

Scarlett's goal triggered the loudest roar hear from the Geelong fans during the match.

"The crowd love him and our players love him as well," Scott said. "It's a fair indication of the esteem in which he's held."

Geelong plays Hawthorn next Saturday night at the MCG. The game will take place only seven weeks after the Cats edged-out the Hawks in their first battle for the season.

Adding intrigue to the clash is the fact that Hawthorn has not beaten Geelong since the 2008 Grand Final.

"All I've seen is that our players hate being beaten," Scott said of the rivalry between the clubs. "They had an opportunity to win a premiership and Hawthorn took that away, so I can understand that feeling.

"But I'd hate to think that we'd lift more for one side than another."
