GREATER Western Sydney will be able to cover the loss of star forward Toby Greene and tagger Matt de Boer after hamstring injuries ruled the pair out for up to three weeks, according to star midfielder Josh Kelly.

Greene and de Boer both ran from the field clutching their hamstrings in the Giants 26-point victory over Gold Coast on Sunday.

The club said on Monday evening they would miss 2-3 games each, a period that takes in clashes against Essendon (on Friday night), Sydney (Thursday, August 13) before likely clashes against West Coast and Fremantle. 

Kelly said that the Giants were confident the team, and especially the forward group, could cover the loss of Greene. Kelly was quick to point out that the Giants were able to beat the Suns while Greene was off the field for most of the match.

"Losing Toby Greene in any football team is a bit of a loss," the 25-year-old midfielder said.

"Having Toby go down in the first quarter wasn't ideal. The team was aware of that but the way we were able to stick to our game plan and focus on the areas that we've wanted to implement over the last few weeks was really good.

"We've got blokes ready to step up, come and fill Toby's role, whether that's Bobby Hill, Jackson Hately who's doing really well, and Callan Ward came back from his injury on the weekend." 

The 2017 Kevin Sheedy medallist and Virgin Australia AFL All Australian refused to be drawn too deeply on his future at the Giants, and whether he might succumb to the sort of big-money move that Kelly seems to be linked to every off-season.

"At the moment I'm a contracted player, so I'm not sure where the discussions keep coming from," he said.

"I'm a happy Giant, and it's probably the last thing on my mind at the moment in terms of everything that's happening with the compressed fixture, being in the hub, and just a very busy football schedule in general."

Kelly admitted that the ongoing speculation about his contract-status and commitment to the Giants "can get a little bit annoying" but was quick to add that "it's also a bit of fun every time it pops up".

"The boys have a bit of fun with it, and it's been like that with any of the players that have been out of contract over the last few years," Kelly said. "There's not too much to worry about there."
