North Chairman James Brayshaw said the club will continue work towards playing home games at Bellerive Oval after meeting key stakeholders in Hobart over the weekend.

''There's a huge chance that we'll see football played in Hobart, at Bellerive Oval, sooner rather than later,'' Brayshaw said.

“Hawthorn has been an amazing success in the north of the state. People up north love it, and I don't have any problem with that, but it still leaves a bigger city starved of AFL football in the state's south.

"I can't, in my simple way of thinking, see why we can't do something about evening that up; the two clubs could absolutely co-exist."

The discussions in Hobart come after the Tasmanian government approached North Melbourne about playing up to seven games in the state each year.

The government is now reportedly close to extending Hawthorn’s deal to for four games a season in Launceston, but Brayshaw said North would continue to work towards a deal to play in Hobart.

"We would love to sit down in the next two to three weeks and have a meaningful discussion with the Premier and see what we can do," he said.

"In the past we'd looked to the 2012 season to establish matches. But again, we're not the ones who can make that happen. We need all the stakeholders on board.”
Brayshaw has stressed the club would continue to look at options for growth.

“We need more members, more supporters, more attendees when we play, more people watching us on TV. If we are going to win our fifth & sixth premierships we have to grow, it's that simple.”
