North Melbourne hits a new mark in its supporter base
NORTH Melbourne has broken its all-time membership record with the club reaching 34,372 members on Thursday.
Longtime Kangaroos supporter Paul Harris became the club's record-breaker when he decided to renew his membership after allowing his membership to cease in 2008.
Harris, 47, said he felt obliged to sign up again because he believes in the direction of the the club.
"When I got the call from the membership team to tell me I was the record-breaking member I was rapt, I felt like I was part of North Melbourne history now," Harris said.
"We've been very unlucky this year and I haven't been to any winning games yet but I know we're heading in the right direction so I had to jump on board and support the guys."
North managing director Carl Dilena said the club appreciated its loyal fanbase's support.
"North Melbourne people are extremely loyal and their passion for our club never wavers," Dilena said.
"Members like Paul (Harris) are the backbone of football clubs because they never give up on their team. We all know the future is incredibly bright at Aegis Park and to be breaking through our membership record is no minor achievement."
Harris said he was urging other people to join up to show their commitment to the Kangaroos.
"I would tell anyone who is on the verge of re-joining just to dig deep...that really sums it up. I'm encouraging everyone I know to get on board and get a North membership."
