PORT Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley doesn't believe any announcement needs to be made about his future beyond this year.

Hinkley signed a three-year contract extension in 2017 to remain in charge until the end of next season, but it's since been revealed one of the conditions was the Power played finals in that time.

However, Port chairman David Koch softened the finals-or-bust scenario in April, saying he was "extremely confident" Hinkley would be coaching in 2021 because of the promising team they'd built.

Port is as good as certain of making the finals – after last qualifying three years ago – having already won nine games this season and being a game clear atop the ladder.

Hinkley said his contract situation didn't need to be discussed and it would "take care of itself".

"For me, the contract was signed a long time ago. Everything was in place then, as it is now. It's business as usual," he said.

"I suppose the fascination was it's been brought up earlier about the trigger and contract, (but) it's done – it's taken care of itself."

The Power passed a major test with an impressive victory over reigning premier Richmond on Saturday, but has another hurdle to clear against Geelong on Friday night.

Ex-Cat Steven Motlop and Sam Mayes (watch the incident in the player below) will return from an ankle setback and suspension, respectively, with Jarrod Lienert and Cam Sutcliffe making way.

Brad Ebert (concussion) is clear to play, but will instead have a competitive hitout on Saturday before being considered.

"We're just being cautious for Brad. Don't write it that Brad's not a good player and not a player we value having back in our side," Hinkley said.
