ADELAIDE football director Mark Ricciuto has raised eyebrows after fuelling trade talk involving Port Adelaide's Charlie Dixon and a potential move to Brisbane.

Officials at the Power and Lions were on Monday left bemused after the Crows champion used his breakfast radio program to suggest the Lions have "strong interest" in the out-of-contract Dixon.

However, while his management and Power list boss Jason Cripps remain in constant dialogue, the 29-year-old Dixon is yet to recommit at Alberton beyond this season.

"It's strange if your good player like that is not signed up at this time of year, especially when Port have got the money and everything," Ricciuto told Triple M.

"There is very strong interest from a side, very strong interest in Charlie from … let's just say he could get a tan.

"I'm not saying he's going back to where he came from (Gold Coast), that state potentially ... I'm not saying he's going by the way, I'm just saying there is very strong interest.

"You'd leave for money, would you? Port have got money.

"I hope he stays. He loves Ken Hinkley and has a great footy side with lots of young players, but watch this space."

Dixon played five seasons at Gold Coast from 2011-15 before joining the Power ahead of the 2016 season.

When asked about the tenure the Lions would be offering, Ricciuto suggested it "might be" a four-year deal.

The Power remains confident of keeping its goalkicker.

"I expect that Charlie will be at our club longer term," Power head of football Chris Davies told SEN on Friday.

"I know that he is happy living in Adelaide."

"You do rely on some good grace in these situations and by saying that I mean that Charlie has been at our footy club for five years, he's got a good relationship with Ken (Hinkley) and our playing group,"

"He knows that the club has looked after him and supported him through some tough times.

"I would be highly surprised if any of that meant that Charlie wanted to chase money or years over what would be a good and fair deal with Port Adelaide."
