PORT Adelaide star Chad Cornes will be sidelined for three to four matches after undergoing surgery on Sunday to fix a fractured finger.
Cornes sustained the injury early in Saturday night's win over St Kilda at AAMI Stadium, although after a spell in the rooms he returned to the ground to play an important role in the victory.
The club said Cornes is expected to resume modified training later this week.
Power coach Mark Williams was hopeful the star utility could return quicker than expected, given his importance to the team.
"He's the heart and soul of our side and it gives us a huge lift when he's out there," Williams said.
"He's going to be missed, but hopefully only for one or two weeks."
Struggling West Coast received another bad blow during Saturday night's big loss to the Western Bulldogs, with key defender Adam Hunter hyperextending his left knee.
Hunter will be scanned on Monday, but is likely to spend at least a fortnight on the sidelines.
Teammate Shannon Hurn sustained a corked calf in the same match, but could be available for Friday night's clash with Carlton at Subiaco.
The Blues have some injury concerns of their own, with defender Bret Thornton out for six weeks with a grade two medial ligament strain.
And young tall forward Adam Hartlett is expected to be out for at least two weeks with a hamstring strain.
Essendon speedster Alwyn Davey will have scans on Monday, which are expected to confirm that he has ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament and needs a season-ending knee reconstruction.
Key defender Dustin Fletcher will miss at least one game with a strained adductor.
Geelong skipper Tom Harley is expected to miss next Saturday's match against Brisbane with a buttock injury, which could also rule him out of playing for the Dream Team the following weekend.
And Fremantle have some major problems ahead of next Sunday's must-win MCG clash with Melbourne.
The Dockers could be without Roger Hayden (thigh), Steven Dodd (knee) and Antoni Grover (thigh), all hurt in Saturday night's heart-breaking one-point loss to the Cats.
