BRISBANE will likely be without Harris Andrews until the finals after the star defender suffered a left hamstring injury in Friday night's win over Collingwood.

In a night of mayhem at the Gabba, the Magpies had troubles of their own, with midfielder Tom Phillips sustaining the same injury to his right hamstring that will rule him out until the finals if Collingwood make it that far.

But Andrews was the big story, with the Virgin Australia AFL All Australian full-back leaving the field early in the third term to ice his hamstring and not returning.

Lions coach Chris Fagan said although the injury had not been officially diagnosed, he was pretty certain of the fate his vice-captain was facing.

"He's definitely got a hamstring," Fagan said.

"They usually take two to three weeks. We're probably not going to see Harris again until the finals, I'd say."

Andrews wasn't the only casualty in the eight-point victory, with young forward Tom Fullarton going off early with a quad strain.

Despite missing two talls for most of the second half, the undersized Lions ground out a victory Fagan described as "mature".

"It was significant, mostly because of the fight we showed," he said.

"I just thought our boys found a way to will themselves over the line.

"They'd get a spoil in, get a smother in, fight hard, show some good composure with the ball to get uncontested marks and force stoppages and waste as much time as we could to get over the line.

"I thought it was a really mature performance, that's what excited me.

"This group's come such a long way over the last three or four years. I don't reckon last year we could have done that. Tonight they found a way."

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley was frustrated with his team's performance, saying they were sloppy around the ball and gifted Brisbane too many goals.

"You've got to find a way and Brisbane were able to find a way tonight, and I thought we helped them," Buckley said.

"We're frustrated tonight but we're confident if we meet this opposition again we'd be confident we can perform better."

Buckley was pleased with his young brigade, highlighting the outings of John Noble (23 disposals), Josh Daicos (25), Jack Madgen (19) and Isaac Quaynor (14) as huge positives.

"We've got some great belief in how we go about it, but we didn't do the basics right," he said.

"The execution was a fair way off, but the endeavour was there.

"We think we've got a bit more to say about it and can do a lot better."
