WEST Coast is breathing a huge sigh of relief, with star defender Jeremy McGovern considered a chance to play in the Eagles' first final.

McGovern injured his hamstring in Thursday night's win over St Kilda, prompting doubts on his chances to play again in 2020.

However, scans results showed the four-time Virgin Australia AFL All Australian won't need surgery and could play within three or four weeks.

Given the pre-finals bye will fall on the weekend of September 26-27, a three-week injury would have McGovern in line to play in the first final. 

"He's had his scans, we're waiting on a final review, but it's looking like we've avoided surgery," Eagles head of football Craig Vozzo told ABC radio on Saturday. 

"At this stage it's looking like a three or four-week injury. It was good news overall because we were bracing for the worst." 

When asked if McGovern's timeline would have him in line for a week two finals return, Vozzo replied: "There's no doubt with Jeremy he'll be pushing for as early as possible but we're hoping it might be earlier than that, but that's probably more realistic."

Vozzo added Dom Sheed (hamstring) and Brendon Ah Chee (finger) would return for the Eagles' round 18 clash with North Melbourne. 

However, Elliot Yeo (groin), Luke Shuey (hamstrings) and Jack Redden (fractured thumb) will instead be targeting the first final. 

West Coast now appears destined to finish fifth or sixth with Vozzo declaring the Eagles a "good chance" to host an elimination final at home at Optus Stadium.

The Eagles have also been granted the opportunity for home quarantine when they return to Perth next Friday morning after the clash with the Roos. They will only be able to leave their homes for training at club headquarters.
