The AFL advises the Match Review of the Saturday matches of Round 17 has been completed. Seven charges were laid with two other incidents requiring an explanation.
Charges Laid:
Jack Ziebell, North Melbourne, has been charged with a first offence of making Careless Contact with an Umpire (Andrew Stephens) during the third quarter of the Round 17 match between North Melbourne and Fremantle, played at Metricon Stadium on Saturday September 12.
In summary, he can accept a $500 sanction with an early plea.
Based on available evidence, the incident was assessed as Careless Contact with an Umpire. The incident was classified as a $750 sanction as a second offence. The player can accept a $500 sanction with an early plea.
Jacob Townsend, Essendon, has been charged with Engaging in a Melee during the fourth quarter of the Round 17 match between Port Adelaide and Essendon, played at Adelaide Oval on Saturday September 12.

Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Careless Conduct, Low Impact and High Contact. The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction as a first offence. The player can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.
Incidents assessed:
The match day report laid against GWS Giants’ Brent Daniels for contact on Melbourne’s Christian Petracca was assessed. The ball is loose in the centre of the ground. Petracca goes to ground as he seeks to contest the ball. As Daniels attempts to take possession of the ball, high contact is made to Petracca. It was the view of the MRO that Daniels was contesting the ball and had no realistic alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.

The match day report laid against GWS Giants’ Shane Mumford for contact on Melbourne’s Bayley Fritsch was assessed. Fritsch makes high contact to Mumford, causing Mumford to go to ground. As he gets up off the ground, Mumford’s head makes contact with Fritsch’s body. It was the view of the MRO that Mumford’s actions did not constitute a headbutt. No further action was taken.
