WITH the backing of coach Ross Lyon, St Kilda's Zac Dawson is set for a rematch with Western Bulldogs forward Barry Hall.

Hall won the Michael Tuck Medal for his seven-goal performance while playing on Dawson in the NAB Cup grand final but Lyon said he would not hesitate to give his defender the job again on Friday night.

"I think if you drill it down after the first quarter, Zac did a reasonably good job on Barry. He had one kick for two quarters," Lyon said on Wednesday.

"Zac is a capable full-back and he is the obvious match-up at this stage but we've got to get through training and finalise selection."

Lyon also confirmed Farren Ray and Jason Gram would be in the frame for a recall after missing last week's loss to Port Adelaide through injury.

Ray and Gram both moved well at training on Wednesday afternoon.

But he said the absence of the two running half-backs was not the only reason for the surprise loss to the Power.

"If we're only about two players on our list, we may as well pack up and go home. The expectation is that whoever plays will run and carry," he said.

"We use the ball well and certainly we were in the game. In saying that, we didn't get the result we desire and we are trying to have a good session tonight and build our confidence from our preparation."

Much of the criticism from the weekend has been levelled at forward Justin Koschitzke who dropped a crucial mark in front of goal late in the last quarter.

Lyon said it had to be remembered that Koschitzke was never going to be an exact replacement for injured captain Nick Riewoldt, but emphasised the coaching staff was happy with his output.

"I don't think anyone is capable of replacing Nick because Nick is Nick," he said.

"Justin has got to be Justin and play his role within the team. For whatever reason, he is a much-hyped player ever since I've come through the door and before I was here.

"People conveniently forget the facts. The facts are he kicked 48 goals as a power forward last year and Nick kicked 72.

"It's pretty healthy with the occasional run in the ruck. If you look at the facts, he is delivering on what we want and we'll continue in that manner."
