THE AFL wishes to advise the match review panel has reviewed matches played from the weekend.

The following charges were laid:

Chris Dawes, Collingwood, has been charged with a level one engaging in rough conduct offence against Cameron Ling, Geelong Cats, during the first quarter of the round nine match between Collingwood and the Geelong Cats, played at the MCG on Friday May 21, 2010.

In summary, he accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a level one offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record.

Nathan Fyfe, Fremantle, has been charged with a first offence for making negligent contact with an umpire (Chris Donlon), during the fourth quarter of the round nine match between Fremantle and the Sydney Swans, played at the SCG on Saturday May 22, 2010.

In summary, he can accept a $900 sanction with an early plea.

A first offence for making negligent contact with an umpire is a $1200 sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a $900 sanction.

Barry Hall, Western Bulldogs, has been charged with misconduct in that he held Scott Thompson, North Melbourne, in a headlock during the second quarter of the round nine match of the Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday May 22, 2010.

The match review panel determined a sanction of $4000. In summary, he can accept a $3000 sanction with an early plea. The charge was laid under the misconduct provisions in the table of offences, whereby the match review panel can impose a financial sanction for a misconduct offence that is not classified under the table. The match review panel took into account the medical report on player Thompson and the relevant footage in determining a charge of rough conduct was not appropriate in the circumstances of this case.

Jason Davenport, Port Adelaide, has been charged with a level three striking offence against Colin Garland, Melbourne, during the third quarter of the round nine match between Port Adelaide and Melbourne, played at TIO Stadium on Saturday May 22, 2010.

In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), medium impact (two points) and body contact (one point). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a level three offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 168.75 points and a one-match sanction.

Jay Schulz, Port Adelaide, has been charged with a level two striking offence against Colin Garland, Melbourne, during the fourth quarter of the round nine match between Port Adelaide and Melbourne, played at TIO Stadium on Saturday May 22, 2010.

In summary, he can accept a reprimand and 70.31 points towards his future record with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). Brent Moloney, Melbourne, has been charged with a level two bumping or making forceful contact from front-on offence against Tom Logan, Port Adelaide, during the fourth quarter of the round nine match between Melbourne and Port Adelaide, played at TIO Stadium on Saturday May 22, 2010.

In summary, his five-year good record means he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two point).  This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a level two offence, drawing 250 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has an existing five-year good record, reducing the sanction by 25 per cent to 187.50 points and a one-match sanction. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 140.63 points and a one-match sanction.

Mitch Farmer, Richmond, has been charged with a level two striking offence against Michael Hurley, Essendon, during the first quarter of the round nine match between Richmond and Essendon, played at the MCG on Saturday May 22, 2010.

In summary, he accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.

This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. Brendon Goddard, St Kilda, has been charged with a second offence for making negligent contact with an umpire (Ray Chamberlain), during the first quarter of the Round Nine match between St Kilda and West Coast, played at Subiaco on Sunday May 23, 2010.

In summary, he can accept an $1800 sanction with an early plea.

A second offence for making negligent contact with an umpire is a $2400 sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to an $1800 sanction.

Other incidents assessed
The match day report laid against North Melbourne’s Scott Thompson for wrestling the Western Bulldogs’ Barry Hall during the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel said that Thompson was taken in a headlock by player Hall and did not wrestle. No further action was taken.

The panel said that from the vision available, it could not be determined if there was contact made to the head of player Giansiracusa. No further action was taken.
 
Contact between Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt and Essendon’s Tayte Pears from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel said the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
 
Contact between Port Adelaide’s Chad Cornes and Melbourne’s Jack Watts from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The contact was not seen as a striking motion. No further action was taken.
 
Contact between Hawthorn’s Brent Renouf and Carlton’s Mitch Robinson from the third quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The panel said the video footage available was insufficient to determine if a reportable offence had occurred. No further action was taken.
