GARY Ablett has all-but guaranteed he will extend his contact with Gold Coast, and in the process told a hungry public he won't be rushed.

 

Speaking in his column in Wednesday's Gold Coast Bulletin, Ablett said he loved playing at the Suns, but indicated there was plenty of time to re-sign and extend his stay beyond a fifth season.

 

"I hate talking contracts, but to those who keep asking ... I came up here to win a premiership and that's what I intend to do," he said.

 

"There's been speculation over the past few months, but I'm contracted until the end of the year, so there's plenty of time to work through the next stage.

 

"What is important is I love playing for the Suns and this is an extremely talented list.

 

"We have the right people around the club and with hard work, this is going to be a very exciting year."

 

Ablett also revealed experienced midfielder Jarrod Harbrow was voted into Gold Coast's leadership group, but turned down the offer to concentrate on his football.

 

Harbrow is highly regarded, but chose to take a back seat to skipper Ablett, Swans recruit Nick Malceski, David Swallow, Tom Lynch, Dion Prestia and Michael Rischitelli, who were all announced in the club's leadership group earlier this month.

 

"Softly spoken Jarrod was initially voted into the leadership group by the boys but he sat the group down and explained that he wanted to concentrate on his football this year — and take his game to another level," Ablett said.

 

"To do this he thought it was best for his football not to be part of the leadership group, but I can tell you, every time Jarrod runs out, he'll be leading by example.

 

"He is such an important player for us … so he will continue to lead without the title."

 

Ablett is recovering strongly from shoulder surgery that cut his 2014 season short, and said he was confident of being fully fit for round one.
