WEST COAST sharpshooter Mark LeCras has been rewarded for an outstanding personal season, winning his first club champion award on Friday night.

LeCras, who booted 63 goals in his 21 games, stormed home in the second half of the year and appears set for further honours when the All-Australian side is named on Monday.

The classy forward posted 294 votes, ahead of Matt Priddis (286), Beau Waters (281), Dean Cox, (271) and Nic Naitanui (252).

He said he was surprised and shocked to be acknowledged alongside past Eagles club champions but was deeply honoured by the recognition.

"It's something I'll hold very close to my heart," he said from the event at Burswood's grand ballroom in Perth.

"You look at some of the names that have won it in the past, it sort of feels uncomfortable when you say my name in the same sentence as a few of them.

"I just can't wait to get back next year, get a few wins on the board, start all over again and get off the bottom of the ladder."

LeCras becomes the first of West Coast's new generation to win the award, with premiership stars Darren Glass, Dean Cox, Chris Judd and Ben Cousins sharing the past nine.

Undoubtedly the highlight of the 24-year-old's season was a stunning 12-goal performance in round 16, in which he single-handedly propelled the Eagles to one of just four wins in a dark campaign.

LeCras didn't remember much of that famous performance, but he mirrored the optimism evident throughout Friday night when he said he was certain the club was set for better days in 2011.

"I'm pretty confident we can turn around our season next year [and] I'm really looking forward to the challenge," he said.

"It's been a tough year, but the attitude of the players and the excitement of the young group ... they've attacked the second half of the season and the challenges we've faced."

Runner-up Matt Priddis was edged by just eight votes in a system where the Eagles' five-man match committee awards votes for each game on a scale of zero to five.

The blue-collar midfielder missed the last three games of the season with an ankle injury and said he was proud to finish in the top five.

Ruckman Naitanui collected the Eagles' rookie of the year award, presented to a player who is under 21 and has played 10 games or less at the start of the season.

Naitanui's top-five finish in the main award was also recognition of his ability to play all 22 games despite carrying a shoulder injury through the second half of the season.

Mark Nicoski was awarded the prestigious Chris Mainwaring Medal for best clubman after salvaging a positive for the club in his own injury-ruined season.

The 26-year-old played just six games due to a serious shoulder injury, but dedicated his year to helping draftees Lewis Broome, Ryan Neates and Gerrick Weedon adjust to AFL life.

"It was basic mentoring one-on-one really, but you've got to want to do it and you've got to enjoy doing it," he said.

"I did and it was really good for me to take time out of my frustrations and what was going on in my life to see what was going on in these guys' lives.

"Seeing them smile when they came in and played a good game, knowing I'd contributed to that a little bit, that made me pretty happy."
