Vodafone Brisbane Lions second-year Irish recruit Colm Begley has been elevated from the Lions rookie list and placed on the club’s senior list in replacement of retired former Lions captain Michael Voss.

Begley, who hails from Stradbally in County Laios in Ireland, was elevated as a result of his impressive performances with the Lions throughout their 2007 AFL NAB Cup campaign where he generated great run from the backline playing predominantly as a medium-sized defender.

His development has been remarkable considering that he has played Australian Rules football for just over 12 months.

Begley became the 100th player to play a senior match with the Brisbane Lions Football Club when he was elevated to the senior list towards the end of the 2006 season. He made his debut against the West Coast Eagles in round 20 last season and went on to play a total of two senior matches.

The 20 year old will now be available for selection in the Lions first round match against Hawthorn on Saturday night at the Gabba.
