Zac Cavallo has celebrated two momentous occasions in his life in the past week.

The eight-year-old ran onto the MCG as Collingwood’s official team mascot in Saturday’s Peter Mac Cup triumph over Carlton.

Then on Monday, Zac underwent his final dose of radiation treatment at the Peter Mac Cancer Centre, having spent the last eight months courageously battling a rare brain tumour called a Craniopharyngioma.

The staff at Peter Mac made a banner for Zac to run through following his final visit.

Collingwood forward Travis Cloke, who met Zac last week when a group of Magpie players visited the Peter Mac Centre in East Melbourne, again met up with his special new friend in the rooms after the win over the Blues, and presented Zac with his own Peter Mac Cup medal for being a part of the Magpies’ triumph.

The Peter Mac Cancer Centre is truly unique within our public hospital system. It is the only Australian hospital solely dedicated to cancer and also has its own cancer research division.

It has an international reputation for excellence and innovation in research, treatment and patient care and continues to dedicate itself to helping more people survive cancer.

Naval ratings from HMAS Cerberus, Rotary Club of East Keilor, Peter Mac staff and volunteers from the wider community all collected donations from the 77,000 fans who attended Saturday’s game; both in and around the MCG, surrounding intersections and railway stations.

All monies collected have gone towards cancer research at Peter Mac.
