The Brisbane Lions have launched their new clash guernsey for Season 2010.

The guernsey (pictured) is predominantly white on both the front (replacing the blue) and back (replacing the maroon or red), but its underlying design remains consistent with the Club's regular home and away strips for 2010.

The same gold Lion features in an identical position on the front of the jumper with a white background above and a maroon background below. The ribbing around the collar and sleeves is blue while the player numbers on the back of the guernsey are maroon.

The clash strip is complete with white shorts and maroon socks.

The guernsey design conforms with the AFL's clash jumper specifications and will only be used in premiership season away matches where the AFL identifies a direct clash between the Lions' regular Club colours and their opponents.

However, Lions fans will see the clash jumper worn for the first time on the field during this Friday afternoon's NAB Challenge practice match against Hawthorn at Southport.

It will also be worn against Melbourne at the MCG in Round 5 of the home-and-away season after the AFL identified a clash between the two team's regular colours.

Lions Chief Executive Michael Bowers believes it is a logical decision for the Club to have a clash jumper.

"In the spirit of the AFL's policy on jumper clashes, we felt it necessary for our Club to have an alternate strip available, that can be used to easily distinguish between two teams on a field," Mr Bowers said.

"But at the same time we wanted to keep the basic design consistent with our existing home and away jumper."

"The jumper will only be worn in matches away from the Gabba during the regular season when the AFL deems it necessary," he said.

"The Club is fully aware that personal opinions on the guernsey will be mixed among Lions members and supporters and we certainly respect each individual's design tastes - especially when it comes to emotive matters like the look of our playing jumpers."

"Most importantly, the players, coaches and Football Department support this clash jumper."

The Lions clash guernsey is available exclusively from the Brisbane Lions online shop at www.lions.com.au/shop and from the Lions AFL Shops in Brisbane and Melbourne until late next week.
