Summary: Adelaide has promised to re-draft Nick Joyce to fill its final senior list spot, after he was delisted during the Kurt Tippett saga so that the club could make the required three changes to its list. It only has one rookie position vacant, but could do with another key position prospect, primarily in defence. The Crows haven't had any uncontracted players (apart from Joyce) training with them over the pre-season.

Summary: The Lions entered the off-season wanting inside midfielders and tall forwards and have addressed both. Moloney adds grunt to the midfield, while Martin, Paparone and Close give them a mix of tall running players that can play forward and spend time in the ruck. After three years on the list destroyed by successive knee reconstructions, the Lions have committed to re-drafting energetic midfielder Callum Bartlett. Jordan Bourke – son of former Geelong and Brisbane Bears' ruckman Damian – has also been training with the squad and is another possible tall forward target.

Summary: The Pies aren’t likely to be involved in the pre-season draft but have already tipped their hand, to a degree, with regards to the rookie draft. Peter Yagmoor, who played one game on debut for the Pies in 2012, is set to be redrafted, while Ben Hudson, the former Crow, Bulldog and Lion ruckman will also be selected. Ostensibly the new Collingwood ruck coach, Hudson is there to provide some ruck depth. Mature-aged Port Melbourne midfielder Sam Dwyer has also been linked with the Magpies in recent days.
FREMANTLE

Summary: Delisted midfielder Jesse Crichton has continued to train with the club and should remain on the list, possibly as a rookie. With its remaining rookie selection, and two pre-season picks, Fremantle must address a lack of young key position players. Five young talls are training with the club, including WAFL talents Alex Howson and Nick Rodda. The club has lost three versatile defenders in Greg Broughton, Dylan Roberton and Jay van Berlo, so one selection could go towards filling that void. Fremantle had committed to re-listing Nick Lower through the pre-season draft, but he has since joined the Western Bulldogs.

Summary: Over the past two off-seasons the Suns have addressed their lack of experience by bringing in some mature bodies. After adding Matthew Warnock last season, this time around they brought in Murphy (Hawthorn) and Broughton (Fremantle) to solidify the backline. Mature-aged Frankston half-back Leigh Osborne has been training with the Suns and looks a likely target to continue strengthening the back half. They are also on the hunt to improve midfield depth and young Queenslander Andrew Boston – who was overlooked in the NAB AFL Draft – is also in their sights.

Summary: The Giants addressed some pressing needs by adding experience and size to the backline through Gilham, Plowman, Jaksch and Corr. They have also bolstered their already-potent midfield stocks with Whitfield and O'Rourke. GWS has remained coy about its pre-season and rookie draft hopes, but there have been clues. Having pulled out of the Kurt Tippett race, GWS suggested it might find a similar, cheaper type in the draft. The Giants also flagged the likelihood of adding some experience on Tuesday. With Luke Power and James McDonald retiring, some veteran bodies anywhere on the park would be warmly welcomed.

Summary: Hawthorn's senior list is full, and it has only one pick in the rookie draft. Recruiting manager Graham Wright has said the club is likely to bolster its ruck depth, after Broc McCauley's decision to retire at the end of the season. Delisted Magpie John Ceglar has been training at Waverley and looms as a candidate. The Hawks have added a nice blend of midfielders, mature key defenders and developing key forward prospects during the free agency, trade and draft periods.

Summary: Having secured key-position players Dawes and Pedersen in the trade period and Jesse Hogan (who won't be officially added to the club's list until the end of next season) in the GWS mini-draft, Melbourne did take a tall in the draft. This suggests Central District ruckman Jack Hannath is a strong chance to join the Dees as a rookie after training with them recently. Melbourne is also likely to be in the market for a quick small forward.

Summary: Having committed to reclaiming de-listed players Ben Speight and Cameron Richardson in the rookie draft, North is likely to have just one 'live' rookie pick. The Roos' list is well balanced so there are no glaring needs they need to fill. However, with Matt Campbell's recent departure they might look to add a speedy forward/midfielder. At last month's draft, Mason Wood was the only potential key-position player among North's six picks, so it may be tempted to take a tall forward or defender.

Summary: Several players have trained with the Power in the off-season, including ex-Bomber Brent Prismall and former Melbourne livewire Liam Jurrah. Prismall had looked likely to fill the side's last senior spot, but he turned his back on a one-year deal at the Power. Instead, Port will draft talented local youngster Sam Colquhoun into its senior squad. Rookie listing Jurrah would be a gamble given his impending court case, but there's no doubt he can play and he oozes x-factor.

Summary: Ex-Magpie ruckman Cameron Wood and former Geelong big man Orren Stephenson have been training with them Tigers, as well as ex-Gold Coast midfielder Josh Toy and their own former rookie Addam Maric. Richmond got its wish by drafting Vlastuin, who will add to its half back line and in time midfield, and covered a few areas with other draft additions including Edwards as a third marking forward. Papua New Guinean forward Gideon Simon will be signed as an international rookie and they'll likely look to either of the big men in the wake of the departures of Angus Graham and Andrew Browne.

Summary: The Saints have addressed a variety of needs across the trade and free agency periods, as well as in the draft. They've recruited a bunch of forwards, two ruck options and some half back prospects that could develop into replacements for Brendon Goddard and Jason Gram. They've also secured Fremantle rebounder Dylan Roberton. While former West Coast rookie Adam Cockie appeared in the box seat for a rookie spot after recently training with the Saints, they aren't expected to be in a position to add another rookie to their list and won't participate in the pre-season draft.

Summary: The Swans believe they achieved their goal at the NAB AFL Draft – simply bringing in the best available talent. All four draftees have started pre-season training. Now there is only one name left on their lips – Kurt Tippett. The former Adelaide forward has long made it clear he wants to become a Swan and the reigning premiers are very keen to make that happen. Despite his 11-game suspension, adding a proven 25-year-old forward/ruck option to the defending premiers must be a cause for concern for the rest of the competition if, as expected, he lands in Sydney on Tuesday.

Summary: West Coast's involvement will be limited to the rookie draft, with two selections available after Brad Dick was promoted to the senior list. With the club in premiership mode, these selections are likely to be used on players who can add to the club's depth in 2013 and offer injury insurance. This approach was evident during the exchange period and at the NAB AFL Draft where the club's third pick was used to recruit 21-year-old midfielder Mark Hutchings. With Quinten Lynch departing, the Eagles have lost a valuable back-up ruck option, so a mature-age ruckman is something the club may look at.
