Geelong has been the ‘cardiac Cats’ over the first nine rounds of the season, winning three games by less than a goal and another over Fremantle by 11 points.

The heart stopping finishes began on opening night, a stunning one point win against the Saints with Darren Milburn kicking the game winner with 19 seconds left.

The Cats were under siege in the final term against Freo in round two, clinging to an 11 point victory, and in the past two weeks Geelong has beaten Collingwood by three points and Carlton by two points.

Geelong coach Chris Scott has regularly spoken about the fact the Cats could easily have a less impressive record and that his team needs to improve.

Brownlow medallist Jimmy Bartel was asked about the close games and also the fact that wins over St Kilda, Hawthorn, the Pies and Blues came after Geelong found themselves behind after slow starts.

Bartel, speaking on Channel Seven, said the Cats many experienced players allowed the Cats to work their way back from difficult positions.

“Our experienced group is an advantage,” Bartel said.

“We can play our way out of those situations and not get stressed. But it’s not a trend we want to keep going to the end of the season as sometimes you will not get back.”
