THE QANTAS Indigenous All-Stars team could feature as many as six premiership players and one NAB AFL Rising Star after a star-studded 33-man squad was named on Friday for the clash with Adelaide in Darwin on February 7.

Among those in contention to represent the All-Stars are premiership players Ashley McGrath, Mathew Stokes, Cyril Rioli, Shaun Burgoyne and David Wirrpanda, and dual premiership player Andrew McLeod.

The 2006 NAB AFL Rising Star winner Danyle Pearce has also been named along with past nominees McLeod, McGrath, Rioli, Burgoyne, Aaron Davey, Raphael Clarke and Josh Hill.

The All-Stars will be coached by Brisbane Lions development coach Chris Johnson, who is currently the only indigenous AFL coach. The 264-game, triple-premiership player will be assisted by Sydney Swans veterans Adam Goodes and Michael O'Loughlin.

Johnson said he was looking forward to taking on the role and being assisted by a quality pair of current players.

"To have Goodes and O'Loughlin involved is fantastic, as coaching is another important area of indigenous football development," Johnson said.

"With over 500 games experience between them their input will be invaluable.

"I'm delighted to have the chance to coach such an impressive group of players. The young indigenous players' opportunity to train with some of the game's best such as McLeod, Burgoyne and Wirrpanda is outstanding.

"I look forward to our training sessions in Darwin next week."

The All-Stars will face the Adelaide Crows at TIO Stadium on Saturday, February 7.

The biennial match showcases the growing indigenous talent in the AFL. In 2009, there are 82 indigenous players listed with AFL clubs – 11 per cent of the overall playing group – which represents a new VFL/AFL record.

The squad, which was selected by three-time premiership player Darryl White, AFLPA indigenous program manager Cory McGrath, AFL indigenous programs manager Jason Mifsud and Johnson, will be trimmed to 30 players next Wednesday, following training.
