Dashing defender Ashley Smith is set to make his long-awaited AFL debut this weekend after being named as an emergency for the past three weeks.
Taken at pick no.36 in the 2008 national draft, the Victorian battled hamstring complaints in his first season on the west coast, but has since provided his WAFL club with a consistent option across half-back or on a wing.
Tapping into a rich vein of solid form for Perth in recent weeks, Smith has forced his way into the team, racking up a total of 37 possessions against West Perth last Saturday in a best-on-ground effort.
The selection of Smith is one of five changes to the West Coast line-up set to take on the Crows at Subiaco Oval this Saturday afternoon.
Other strong WAFL performers to be rewarded with a recall into the senior side include the versatile Mitch Brown, rookies Ashton Hams and Lewis Stevenson, and premiership defender Brett Jones.
Jones will play his 100th match for the blue and gold on Saturday, sharing his milestone with teammate Andrew Embley who is set to become the 13th Eagle to reach 200 games for the club.
Brown has been named in the backline, having been used as both a forward and defender this season, while the inclusion of Hams and Stevenson will provide the coaches with further options.
Wingman Bradd Dalziell has been ruled out with a finger tendon injury which will see him sitting on the sidelines for six to eight weeks, while Ben McKinley and Beau Wilkes were unlucky to be omitted. Tom Swift has succumbed to abdominal soreness and Pat McGinnity has sustained an adductor strain.
