PORT Adelaide has been dealt a blow for Thursday night's clash with the Western Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval, with in-form defender Tom Jonas set to be sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Jonas injured his hamstring in the first quarter of the Power's 14-point win against Richmond on Friday night, but was able to play out the game.
Jack Hombsch appears to be the logical replacement for Jonas, while forward Todd Marshall could return for his first game at senior level since the death of his father in April.
"We're clearly going to have an issue with Jonas," Power coach Ken Hinkley told Sportsday SA on Tuesday night.
"Jonas is probably going to struggle to come up, we'll confirm that in the morning once we get through it, but he's got a little nick in his hammy.
"He's got through the start of the week and again today (at main training). It's not quite comfortable, so we'll get him checked and there will be some signaling there.
"When there is, I just don't take risks. He'll be out, probably."
Jonas has been in superb form for the Power this season irrespective of whether he's standing tall or small forwards.
"I think he might have done it in the first quarter and he's been able to get through the game," Hinkley said.
"He had a bit of awareness, and what happens is when you hear awareness, he's usually done something. But he got through the whole game and was able to still contribute pretty well for us."
The eighth-placed Power (7-4) have won three of their past four games, but could make an unforced change to bring back Marshall for his first game since round four.
The talented 19-year-old was granted compassionate leave after his father passed away, and then injured his shoulder in a SANFL game.
Marshall made a successful return in the SANFL on the weekend, while Dom Barry, Karl Amon, Jack Trengove and veteran forward Lindsay Thomas also pushed their selection claims.
"Marshall and a couple others have been pretty good in the SANFL, and you know I'm a big fan of Toddy Marshall, so we may make another change or two there," Hinkley said.
