MELBOURNE has re-signed key forward Brad Miller and ruckman Mark Jamar to new one-year deals, meaning the duo will remain at the club for 2010.

Jamar had attracted strong interest from Port Adelaide this week, but the 26-year-old will remain with Melbourne - and more than likely its No.1 ruckman next season - after injuries ruined his 2009.

Jamar showed genuine improvement this year, despite managing just seven matches. He missed the opening seven rounds with a foot stress fracture and another five matches with a quadricep injury.

His quad problem occurred twice, from rounds 12-13 and rounds 17-19.

He won 29 hit-outs or more in four of his seven matches this year. In round 21 against Carlton at Etihad Stadium, Jamar played up forward and kicked a career-best five goals in an impressive individual display.

After producing his best AFL season in 2008 and returning to the club's leadership group in 2009, Miller had a frustrating season this year. After some strong early season performances, from rounds 11 to 16, Miller played just two matches, as he returned to the VFL with Casey Scorpions.

But with Melbourne not having an abundance of tall forwards on its list, Miller remains an important part of that mix, particularly with the likes of Jack Watts and Liam Jurrah debuting in 2009. Miller is also capable of playing in a key defensive post.

Melbourne list manager Tim Harrington said the club was delighted to re-sign the two experienced campaigners.

"We are really pleased that Brad and Mark have signed contract extensions," he said.

"They are both experienced players at the club and at 26 years of age we expect them both to play an important role for the team next year."

Miller, who was selected at No.55 from Mt Gravatt in the 2001 AFL Draft, has played 127 matches for the Demons since debuting in round eight, 2002.

Originally from North Adelaide, Jamar was the sixth player selected in the 2001 Rookie Draft (held in December 2000). He is Melbourne's most experienced ruckman with 73 matches to his name since making his debut in 2003.
