The Brisbane Lions are apparently close to signing new contracts with veteran superstar Simon Black and a host of other players once Trade Week concludes.

National Talent Manager Rob Kerr told the Herald Sun that he was confident a quick resolution can be reached with Black and several other uncontracted players, particularly now the Club's push to secure Adelaide's Kurt Tippett appears lost.

"We were making a serious pitch for Kurt through the trade period and as a result of that we needed to maintain some flexibility within our salary cap," Kerr said.

"There were a few players who we expressed that to. Now we know our position, we will be tying those things up."

Black's Manager Peter Blucher confirmed that the three-time Club Champion remained unsigned.

"We are scheduled to meet them next week and we would hope that things can be resolved," Blucher said.

Kerr also revealed that the Lions were hoping to finalise a deal with Fremantle for Mitch Clark before the trade deadline ends.

"We always said to Fremantle that we want their first pick (No.16) and preferably something in addition to it," Kerr said.

"They started with their end of first round compensation pick, then they moved to pick 20, and now pick 16."

"We are continuing to talk to them."
