Collingwood first-year forward Travis Cloke has a chance to win the 2005 NAB Rising Star medal, after winning the round 10 nomination.

Cloke had 15 touches, took six marks and kicked a goal for the Pies against the Hawks at the MCG on Saturday as the resurgent Magpies won their second straight match to move off the bottom of the ladder.

Cloke - the fourth of the family to play for the Pies - was picked up under the father-son rule in the 2004 National Bank's AFL Draft, joining his older brothers Jason and Cameron at the Magpies.

Cloke said he was "thrilled" with his nomination, but his brothers and parents had made sure it wouldn’t go to his head.

"Jase got one (a nomination) a few years ago but Cam's still waiting and I've knocked him off early in the year. I don’t think he's too happy but I think his chance will come later in the year," Cloke said.

"Mum and dad and the brothers are always on to us to keep your head down and keep working toward your goals, so you don’t get a big head around here."

Cloke said he thought that his opening term against Hawthorn was the best quarter he's played so far this year, but it was not his best match overall.

He said however, that he's learning something new every week and enjoying the challenge.

"I think last week against West Coast was a pretty consistent game I've played. On the weekend was a pretty solid game but not the best one."

"Every game I'm taking that extra little step. Playing with different players - Chris Tarrant and Blake Caracella is helping my footy and myself.

"I think every game I play is going to improve and hopefully it's improving the team and their prospects towards September and the finals.

The 18-year old made his AFL debut on Anzac Day against the Bombers, coincidentally in the same match Cameron did a year earlier, and is considered to be the most naturally talented of the Cloke trio.

The handy 197cm left-footer can play in several positions, and has made a serious impact for the Magpies since his debut, playing every game since the round five blockbuster.

Cloke was recruited from the Eastern Ranges under-18 side, and is one of the Magpies' more-promising options for the future side, along with fellow 2005-debutantes such as Chris Egan and David Fanning.
