NORTH Melbourne has suspended veteran forward Shannon Grant for breaching its player code of conduct.

The club confirmed on Wednesday that Grant will miss Saturday night's clash with Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium as a result.

However, a reason wasn't given for the discipline.

The 31-year-old has played all bar one game for the Roos this season, missing the round 12 loss to Fremantle at Subiaco Oval.

Should North Melbourne not reach the finals, Grant will need to play every match from round 16 or be forced to wait until 2009 for his 300-game milestone.

Kangaroos coach Dean Laidley said last month that, regardless of form, Grant will never be consigned to the VFL under his rule.
