ANDREW Gaff is all but locked in to be an Eagle for the next four years after triggering the long-term contract extension with the club.
The star midfielder knocked back a mega offer to join North Melbourne at the end of 2018 to instead sign a two-year extension with the Eagles that also had a clause for a further four seasons.
WHO'S MOVING? All the latest trade and contract news
That new-age deal gave Gaff the option to sign on for the additional seasons this year and is understood to have been confirmed behind the scenes with an announcement imminent.
Although Gaff remained tight-lipped about the contract extension, with him still listed officially as an unrestricted free agent this year, the 28-year-old will remain an Eagle until the end of 2024.
"We're still working through that and that will figure itself out within the next few weeks," Gaff told AFL.com.au.
"I'm in communication with the club and my manager and sorting that stuff out. I'm looking forward to this finals series and it playing out from there."
FINALS PREDICTOR Who will win the 2020 premiership?
The two-time All Australian will be a key player for the Eagles as they take on Collingwood in next week's elimination final at Optus Stadium.
After spending the 2018 season in the spotlight as he considered his future at the Eagles or a move back to Victoria, West Coast's No.3 said he had learned how to push the contract discussion to the side.
"I feel like it's a bit of a strength of mine to be able to block out that stuff and still play relatively consistent football regardless of all that talk," Gaff said.
"As footballers you've got to have pretty thick skin and you need to just move on and adapt. There's no bigger evidence of that than this year with the sacrifices everyone's had to make to get the game going again.
"I think we've all developed an ability to move on and leave whatever's being talked about to the side and focus on playing good team footy."
Gaff's commitment to the Eagles means they have secured one of their senior stars beyond this season, with contract talks underway for one-year extensions for champion forward Josh Kennedy and premiership skipper Shannon Hurn.
Mark Hutchings also qualifies as an unrestricted free agent and has had some interest from rivals, while defender Will Schofield is also without a deal for 2021.
