TOUGH Melbourne midfielder Jack Viney has turned his back on free agency to remain a one-club player.

The former co-captain has signed a five-year deal with the club, taking him through until the end of the 2025 season.

Viney had been linked to Geelong.

Melbourne's football operations manager Josh Mahoney says Viney's decision to re-commit shows great belief in the direction of the football club.

"By signing a long-term deal, Jack has shown belief in his teammates, his coaches and the club, which is exciting for everyone," Mahoney said on Melbourne's website.

Viney finished third in the club's best and fairest voting in 2020 after winning the award in 2016.
