FORMER Adelaide coach Don Pyke has emerged from a season in the AFL wilderness to accept an assistant coaching role at Sydney under John Longmire.
Pyke resigned as Crows coach last year after they missed the finals for the second straight season, amid a club-wide review and turmoil related to the infamous camp following the 2017 Grand Final.
The 51-year-old left the door ajar for a coaching return during his outgoing media conference, saying he thought he still had "something to offer".

Pyke finished his four-season stint in charge of Adelaide with 53 wins, one draw and 34 losses.
The Swans are yet to indicate the specifics of Pyke's coaching role, but football boss Charlie Gardiner said he would add significant experience to Longmire's team.
"We're excited to be able to bring in a coach of Don's calibre," Gardiner said.
"He brings with him a wealth of experience, is strategically minded and is passionate about developing players to be part of successful teams.

Steve Johnson won't be part of Longmire's coaching staff next season after electing to return to Greater Western Sydney.
Pyke played 132 games for West Coast between 1989 and 1996, before working as a strategy coach at the Eagles and later briefly as an assistant for the Crows long before he became head coach.
He will start his new role with the Swans in November.
