JORDAN Ridley has made his recommitment to Essendon official, signing a new contract until the end of 2024.

His four-year extension was revealed by AFL.com.au in August after enjoying a breakout season.

Brisbane had shown interest in luring Ridley to the Lions but he was locked in to a long-term stay at the Bombers.  

 The club held off in announcing the new contract until this week, when he has followed Andrew McGrath and Kyle Langford in officially penning new deals.

Ridley had an outstanding season, winning Essendon's best and fairest after just his 26th game in his career as he developed into one of the best intercept defenders in the competition. He was named in the All-Australian squad of 40 but did not make the final team.

The 21-year-old had played just nine games in three seasons before his brilliant year in 2020 where he was Essendon's shining light. 

"I'm really grateful to the club for the opportunity to extend my contract, and it was a pretty easy decision to get to," Ridley said.

"I've worked really closely with Ben Rutten and (line coach) James Kelly this season and they've given me a lot of belief but working closely with Michael Hurley down back particularly has been really beneficial for my game.

"We're not satisfied with our season by any stretch and we have a lot of hard work to do this pre-season but under 'Truck' (Rutten), I'm really confident in where we're heading over the next few years as a group. It's going to be pretty exciting to be a part of it for at least the next four years to see what we can all do together."
