DENNIS Cometti might have retired as an AFL television commentator but his voice will be heard on the new game AFL Evolution.

Cometti has lent his voice to previous AFL games, having featured alongside Brian Taylor and Tom Harley in AFL Live and AFL Live 2 which were released in 2011 and 2015 respectively.

Former Richmond champion Matthew Richardson will feature alongside Cometti in the new game.

The veteran West Australian will commentate WAFL games for Channel 7 next year and will broadcast on Triple M for games in Perth.

"Commentary can be tough, but like everything else, it is improved and better than before," game developer Wicked Witch said in a Facebook post.

Options for game play will allow the user to create a player and develop him from the junior ranks.

"In both the career mode and the pro mode, you can start as an U18, work your way up, play for the VFL and eventually get drafted into an AFL team," Wicked Witch said.

"(There's) some contract stuff as well to try and get traded onto your desired team or if you get dropped etc."

There will be the options of skipping the pathways and starting in the AFL, or taking control of an existing player's career.

The game is due for release in the first half of 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC Steam.

"A game play teaser or early footage is most likely going to be in the new year," Wicked Witch said.

Fans can vote on AFL.com.au for which player should feature on the game's cover.
