ESSENDON small forward Orazio Fantasia will this week tell the Bombers he wants to be traded to Port Adelaide. 

It comes as the Power pursue contracted Sydney defender/ruckman Aliir Aliir to fill the void left by departed club champion Justin Westhoff.

Fantasia has a year to run on his deal at Tullamarine but is seeking a move to his home state to be closer to family and friends and assist the Power's push for a flag in 2021. 

The 25-year-old explored a trade to the Power last year but backflipped at the last minute to return to Essendon with two years remaining on his contract. 

However, after an injury-interrupted five-game season, Fantasia made it known to both clubs he had a desire to move back to South Australia. 

Adelaide met with the Norwood product earlier this month after he underwent independent medical testing for the two SA clubs, however his preference is to head to Alberton.

The Power had been waiting to fully explore the possibility of landing Fantasia until after their season ended which came after last week's preliminary final loss to Richmond.

Fantasia shares a close bond with Power assistant Nathan Bassett who coached him to a SANFL premiership in 2013. Bassett this week announced an extension to stay with the Power as forwards coach for next season. 

The livewire is also friends with Power skipper and former Redlegs teammate Tom Jonas, with the pair regularly playing golf together in Adelaide. 

As a contracted player, a trade for Fantasia will need to negotiated between the two clubs. 

The Power currently owns picks 26, 31, 39, 51 and 53 at this year's NAB AFL Draft.

Fantasia will be the third Bomber to depart this off-season after free agent Joe Daniher nominated a move to Brisbane and Adam Saad requested a trade to Carlton.

Meanwhile, the Power have identified Aliir as a player of interest after losing depth in their key positions following the retirement of Westhoff. 

The 26-year-old caught the Power's eye during their round 14 win over the Swans when he was thrown into the ruck in the second half and competed strongly. 

Should the Power be successful in landing Aliir (195cm), he would also add height to the back half alongside Tom Clurey (193cm), Trent McKenzie (191cm) and Tom Jonas (188cm).

As a contracted player, any move for Aliir would need to be facilitated via a trade. 

While the Swans are chasing a ruckman, the Power are not expected to be willing to part with contracted pair Peter Ladhams and Sam Hayes who sit behind Scott Lycett in the club's ruck pecking order.
