Nidal Sayegh tries to cope with a move to the nation’s capital …

We continue to hear from Crows fans living and travelling overseas. But now we also want to hear from some of those thousands of Crows fans who live outside the Adelaide area but go to great lengths to follow our club.

Nidal writes about being a Crows fan in Canberra …

“My name is Nidal Sayegh. I live in Canberra and hold a 2008 Premier membership.

I remember seeing the Crows play in their first ever match when I was eight years old, and since then I have lived and breathed the Adelaide Crows.

I moved to Canberra in January 2007 to start my first ever full-time job, working for the Public Service. It's been quite challenging moving interstate, moving out of home for the first time, and being separated from the Club. There are so many differences between Adelaide and Canberra - rugby is so popular, AFL supporters over here are definitely in the minority. Another thing I'll never get used to is a mere 10-15,000 people at Manuka Oval (supporting Sydney) when I'm used to 45,000 at AAMI Stadium cheering their lungs out in support of the mighty Crows!

I try to get back over to Adelaide at least once a month to watch the Crows play live, as well as any interstate matches I can attend. As a back-up, the local footy club is always guaranteed to show the majority of games every week. There are a few Crows supporters from Adelaide who I work with, so it is always great to catch up with them and be able to discuss something other than the Raiders or Brumbies on a Monday morning!

I have even converted a few Canberra locals to support the Crows - I always forward them any emails and news from the club, and be sure to grab them some merchandise from my trips back home. Two great experiences this year were having about seven of us drive down to Sydney to watch Crows beat the Swans by 24 points - a tough, well-fought contest - and then flying to Melbourne in June this year to watch the Crows easily account for Richmond at the MCG.

Next trips on the agenda are to get the group to Brisbane if we play at the Gabba next season, and to bring everyone back over to Adelaide for a home match. I promised them that there is nothing quite like a Crows home game at AAMI Stadium!

Regards,
Nidal Sayegh”
