Tim Rogers grew up in Kalgoorlie, lived in Adelaide and Canberra, before finally settling in Sydney, where he formed You Am I with his brother in 1989. The band immediately found themselves in hot demand, quickly establishing themselves as one of the most loved bands of the burgeoning alternative rock scene of the early 1990s. Singles such as “Berlin Chair” and “Heavy Heart” gained them strong radio play, while the aforementioned track would eventually be voted into the #52 position in the Triple J Hottest 100 of All Time in 2009.

The band were one of the only Australian acts of the era to achieve multiple #1 records in a row with Hi Fi Way, Hourly Daily and #4 Record all hitting the top of the charts. You Am I toured like demons, and more often than not gave younger bands their first big break - notable support acts on their many tours over the years have included the likes of Silverchair (who took their name from a Nirvana and a You Am I song joined together), Powderfinger, and the Strokes, who You Am I took under their wing before the Strokes’ debut album revolutionised rock music in the early 2000s.

As well as playing with You Am I, Rogers has had a successful solo career, recording and touring with his pick-up bands The Twin Set and The Temperance Union. He’s toured the world with both You Am I and as a solo artist, and is now performing as part of the 2010 Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
