Kurt Tippett has spoken to Adelaide’s official podcast ‘Down the Guts’ on the eve of his 50th AFL game.

Drafted from Southport with pick 32 in the 2006 national draft, Tippett had only played football for two years before heading to Adelaide and was a talented basketballer as a junior.

Now in his fourth year at the club, Tippett has kicked 79 goals and received a Rising Star nomination in 2008, and the big forward said reaching 50 games will be a proud moment.

“When I first started playing football I would have never guessed I would have played 50 games of AFL football,” Tippett said.

“It is very exciting and something I think I’ll look back on is playing 50 games at the Adelaide Football Club.”

Expectations on Tippett to perform were high going into season 2010 and he had a slow start to the year by his own standards.

In the last two weeks he has kicked six goals and returned to some of his 2009 form and he is looking to continually improve throughout the season.

“The last few weeks have been pretty positive for myself coming back to form. I was obviously very disappointed at the start of the season, not through lack of effort though,” he said.

“I was probably trying too hard and trying to do too much so I took a step back and I wanted to get back to the way I play and play to my strengths and I think I’ve done that the last few weeks. Hopefully I can keep improving for the rest of the season now.”

In this week’s edition of Down the Guts Kurt also speaks about his talented sporting family and backyard basketball battles with his younger sister.

Andrew McLeod talks to assistant coach Mark Bickley about the team’s performances, how his role has changed and when he might be able to go on his honeymoon and Bernie Vince hosts another ‘Quick 60’ with Patrick Dangerfield tackling questions about fishing.
