SHAUN Burgoyne's quest to join the Hawks continues to hit roadblocks with Essendon re-entering discussions and Melbourne lurking with pick No.1 in the 2009 NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft.

The Sunday Age and Sunday Herald Sun both report on a stalemate in negotiations between Port Adelaide and Hawthorn.

With their first round draft pick (No.9) on the table, the Hawks are also reported to be offering Port Adelaide one of Garry Moss, Josh Kennedy, Travis Tuck or Ben McGlynn.

However, the Sunday Herald Sun says Jordan Lewis and Grant Birchall are the two players Port Adelaide is chasing as compensation for its vice-captain, with young South Australian product Ryan Schoenmakers also in the club's sights.

The Sunday Age says Lewis, Schoenmakers and former first round draft pick Beau Dowler are the three players on Port Adelaide's wish list, but Hawthorn won't give any of them up.

Essendon has re-commenced discussions with the Power, while Melbourne gets first choice of the uncontracted players in the pre-season draft.

Out-of-favour Essendon utility Jay Nash, 23, has also been linked to Port Adelaide after playing just two games this season.

The Herald Sun speculates that Essendon may trade the young South Australian, with Port Adelaide suggested as a good fit.

Still with Port Adelaide, and West Coast premiership forward Ash Hansen has been linked with a move to Alberton by Perth's Sunday Times.

Meanwhile, West Coast teammates Matt Spangher and Mark Nicoski, who have been linked to Carlton and Richmond respectively, are on the verge of signing new deals with the Eagles, the Sunday Times says.

The same newspaper says Fremantle's Brett Peake is considering offers from St Kilda, the Sydney Swans and Melbourne.

Fremantle could lose the speedster for nothing if he settles on Melbourne, which has the first pick in the pre-season draft, or a trade can't be arranged with the Swans or St Kilda.

At the Brisbane Lions, forward Rhan Hooper is unlikely to be at the club next season with Brisbane's Sunday Mail reporting that a trade deal will be worked out soon.

Essendon's Andrew Lovett continues to be linked with a move to the Lions, while Fremantle is reported to be interested in snaring the speedster through the pre-season draft.
