Monday
On Monday I arrived and was introduced to the community team - Tash, Tuckers, Russell and Pauly. I was informed of my outline for the week and then given a tour around Alan Scott Power Head Quarters where I was introduced to some players. I was then left with Alphy where I got to sort the footy’s out and collect the footy’s for Brett Ebert. I also was included in a Community team meeting where we organised and discussed the week ahead. After lunch I researched the different websites of different sports from a community perspective.
Tuesday
On Tuesday I was given the task of making 400 player card packs. This tedious and repetitive task was broken up with some research on different clubs membership packages and the different benefits included. After lunch I was given the task of creating some questions for a quiz night, the questions had to be based on the showdown.
Wednesday
On Wednesday I had the chance to join the footy department for the day, I helped with the preparation of lunch, cleaning player’s boots and sorting the footy’s out. I was lucky enough to be given a pair of Cam Oshea’s brand new footy boots. Once the team had started training I got to collect the balls at one end, and kick the footy’s with Dean Brogan, Alipate Carlile and Jackson Trengove. I also shared lunch with players and had a kick in the inside facilities. Overall it was a great day and appreciated all the players friendliness and being given the opportunity to do this.
Thursday
This was a big day - it started of with a trip to watch Anna Meares train. It was very interesting to see the tactics involved and the vastly different way they train. We then went back to the club to set up for the Planet Teal Super Clinic with over 400 kids. I helped out with the handball target. The day was a success with the clinics running well and the sign session being a major hit. All the kids had a great time.
Friday
Friday was a bit of a clean up day, we packed up all the gear from the day before, sorted out the little footy’s and packed the trailer.
My time here has been brilliant and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It has been great to experience and see all the different aspects which go into getting the team on the park. I thank everyone who has helped me during my week, especially the community team.
