The Northern Territory has dished out its second shellacking in as many games, after it thrashed Tasmania by 70 points in the Under 18 National Championships.

The Thunder 15.13 (103) defeated the Apple Isle 5.3 (33) in the fourth match of the division two section of the carnival to conclude the third day at Skilled Stadium in Geelong.

After cruising to victory by 69 points over NSW/ACT on Saturday, the Northern Territory again turned it on early against Tasmania, notching up 10 goals to two in the first-half to set up the victory.

Tasmania, which had lost its first match by 58 points, could manage just two majors in the first-half as the Thunder clearly outclassed the green and gold.

However, only eight goals were scored in the second-half with the Territory claiming five and Tasmania adding three to its tally.

Anthony Corrie was again a shining light for the Thunder and continued his stellar carnival form that saw him achieve best-on-ground status against NSW/ACT on Saturday, as the classy Raphael Clarke again displayed his prodigious talent.

Corrie notched up 21 disposals and kicked three goals, while Clarke racked up 19 touches and chipped in with a goal.

Cameron Ilett was another stand out performer for the Thunder, as he gathered 22 possessions – including 10 clearances, while Tom Logan and Simon Munkara booted six goals between them in the first-half.

Joel Campbell, Ben Ahmat and Antal Reti, were other fine contributors for the Northern Territory.

But in another disappointing performance from Tasmania, captain Luke Shackleton again stood up with 31 disposals (21 kicks and 10 handballs), while Brett Robinson (20 possessions and one goal), Allan O’Sign and Trent McCrossen worked hard.

The Thunder kicked-off proceedings via talented forward Jared Brennan, while Michael Thompson quickly replied to open Tasmania’s account.

But the Logan show began mid-way through the opening term, when he registered three of the Territory’s four for the quarter to give the Thunder a 24-point lead at the first change.

Logan passed the baton onto Munkara in the second quarter, as the Territory more than doubled their lead at half-time.

Munkara finished with three majors, as the second quarter proved to be a virtual replica of the first term, with the Territory posting five goals to one.

Aidan Fleming was Tasmania’s lone-goalscorer during that period as the Thunder from the top-end of down under broke away to a 52-point lead at half-time.

Aside from Logan and Munkara’s three goals each in the first-half, Corrie, Clarke and Ilett were all on fire for the Thunder.

Shackleton, McCrossen and Robinson were among Tassie’s possession winners in the first-half and battled hard for their state.

A low-scoring third term saw the Territorians add just two majors – extending the lead to 60 points at three-quarter time – as Robinson was Tasmania’s lone goalscorer during that period.

With the result never in doubt in the final term, the Northern Territory added a further three goals to two, to better their first-match winning margin against NSW/ACT by one point.
