THE DEMONS are considering training in a high-altitude facility close to the Himalayas, writes The Age's Caroline Wilson.

It is reported that the move is being "pushed" by the club's new coaches Mark Neeld and sports performance boss Neil Craig.

Craig and Melbourne chief Cameron Schwab recently visited the high-altitude centre and Wilson writes that "Neeld and Craig presented details of the Kunming Sports Training Centre to the Melbourne board on Monday".

At the moment, the Chinese swimming team is using the facility as it prepares for the London Olympics.

Melbourne played a practice game in China against the Brisbane Lions at the end of the 2010 season.

Schwab said "the opportunities that came out of it was just an outstanding thing for our club".

He said: ''Neil [Craig] is very interested in [the training facility] but it's something that Mark Neeld has had a close connection with through his Collingwood experience, and he believes it does provide advantages.

"It's not something you would look to do as a one-off … we were impressed by the topography because Kunming actually has very good training grounds as well as being in high altitude."

Schwab is also hopeful the Demons will find another jumper sponsor in China.

"'I'm hopeful a number of relationships will come out of it," he said.
