Former Lions champion Luke Power was today traded to GWS in exchange for the Giants' fourth round selection (Pick No.69 overall).

Power, who announced his retirement from the Club in Round 23 this year, had advised of his attentions to continue his 282-game career at the AFL's newest franchise at the end of the 2011 season.

Considering Power still remained on the Lions’ official 2011 playing list, the only way of arriving at his desired location was via trade.

Lions National Talent Manager Rob Kerr said that the Club had no intentions of making the move difficult for one of its favourite sons.

"Luke is one of our all-time Club greats and is highly respected by everyone involved with the Brisbane Lions," Kerr said.

"So it was always our intention to do the right thing by Luke and deliver him to GWS where he advised he wanted to continue his career."

"But it was also important that we acted in the best interests of the Club, and are pleased to have received a late draft selection as part of the trade, which ultimately helped us land Ben Hudson from the Western Bullodgs."

The Lions once again acknowledge Luke Power’s enormous contribution to the Club and wish him well on the next stage of his career.
