BRISBANE'S All Australian midfielder Dayne Zorko believes comparisons between No.1 draft pick Cameron Rayner and Brownlow medallist Dustin Martin are fair but a tad premature.
Rayner's resemblance to Dusty in appearance and playing style became a major focus in the lead-in to last year's draft and it has raged on throughout his debut season.
The 18-year-old scored the round 15 NAB AFL Rising Star nomination thanks to his 19 disposals (11 contested) and two goals in the Lions' drought-busting 55-point thumping of Fremantle in Perth.
It was Brisbane's first victory out west since 2010.
Zorko referenced Rayner's fend-off, explosiveness off the mark, deceptive speed and forward pressure in his comparison between the teenager and the Richmond superstar.
"I'm not sure we can compare him to Dusty at the moment, but he certainly has attributes that could compare him to him," Zorko told RSN927.
"But he'll develop into his own player with his own style with the more games he plays.
The Lions' impressive triumph over the Dockers, who were aiming for a third win in a row, joins their 56-point destruction of Hawthorn in round nine as their wins for the season.
But Zorko, who won 19 touches of his own, kicked a goal, racked up 10 score involvements and laid eight tackles, said Brisbane was confident that type of performance was on the horizon more consistently.
"We've certainly been building," he said.
"We felt like we've been playing some really good football, and I think at the weekend everything clicked – similar to the Hawthorn game – and everything just seemed to go our way.
"We moved the ball how we wanted to, and we defended really well."
Zorko revealed that the Lions' playing group discussed the need to generate their own energy and enthusiasm in a "hostile" environment at Optus Stadium.
"We looked after each other, we supported each other, and it was a really strong brotherhood effort we were very proud of," he said.
"I think the (win gives us the) belief we can do it … it was really encouraging and we acknowledge the win, but as soon as we come in this morning it's straight onto Carlton.
"It's another great opportunity for us this weekend."
