ESSENDON coach Matthew Knights says Essendon is stoked with the way trade week has gone for his club.
The Bombers have picked up former Hawk Mark Williams and have retained their first round pick and have three picks in the second round.
Midfielder Andrew Lovett said he wanted out and the Bombers got him a new home at St Kilda for which they received pick 16, which they on-traded to Hawthorn for Williams.
Knights said the club was unlikely to see any more activity before the 2pm deadline, but said they were rapt with what they'd achieved.
"Can you be happier than happy?" he asked. "We're stoked, we're pleased - as I said, to add Mark to this group, with his experience, he's still a young man in many terms, he's 26 years of age, and we still think he's got his best football in front of him.
"Mark's coming with a blank canvas, with a scope to show what he can do for the Essendon Football Club.
"I'm sure he's going to excite the Essendon members and supporters when they come to games, because he can do some special things on a football field.
"When he gets it in his hands, it's usually going back to the centre bounce."
Given that Lovett could have gone straight into the pre-season draft, which would have resulted in the Bombers getting nothing, the deal is an outstanding one.
"Andrew has got to St Kilda, and they're really rapt with that and Andrew's pleased," Knights said.
"We're comfortable, and now we've got to solidify and make those picks count."
Williams agreed that his best footwall was yet to come, despite a flag and 46 goals in 2008 and 60+ goals in both 2005 and 2006 in a struggling Hawthorn team.
"I do actually (think his best football is ahead of him) – I just want to come and rejuvenate," he said.
"Essendon are on the way up, and I want to come here and play my role in the side, and do what Matthew expects of me.
"Hopefully we can have a successful year."
The deal was a complicated one involving the Bombers, Hawks, Cats and Power.
The Bombers got pick 16 for out-of-favour midfielder Lovett, which they on-traded to Hawthorn for Williams.
Bomber Jay Nash moves to Port Adelaide, and the Power also receive two first-round draft picks: No.9 (from Hawthorn) and 16.
Geelong, the fourth club involved in the trade, has parted with draft pick 33 in exchange for three additional picks. The Cats took draft selections 40 and 56 from Port Adelaide, and 42 from Essendon.
In a further exchange of draft picks, Essendon receives No.24 (from Port Adelaide), and Geelong's 33.
