FORMER Hawthorn defender Chris Mew say he laughs every time he hears someone use his name as rhyming slang for a word most commonly associated with vomiting.
"I don't know where that actually started," Mew says with a chuckle in the latest episode of Life After Footy.
"I suppose people just love the rhyming."
Mew, who was renowned for his strong marking and ability to read the play, made 230 VFL/AFL appearances for the Hawks during a 12-year career.
By the time he hung up his boots, he was recognised as one of the club's all-time finest defenders.
Those sentiments were confirmed when he was named at centre half-back in Hawthorn's team of the century.
"I was lucky enough to play in five winning Grand Finals, and we lost three Grand Finals, so that was eight," Mew explains.
"I also played in three night Grand Finals, so we had a pretty good run."
Mew grew up at Rosebud on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula.
These days he's back living on the Peninsula, where he enjoys playing golf and going fishing, and is one of the leading home builders in the area.
