Geelong’s VFL side was dealt a weekend of massive blows after going down to Collingwood by one point on the weekend.

Coupled with the defeat is the fact that full back Chris Kangars went down with an ankle injury and tough defender David Johnson injured his knee. The loss also means that the Cats’ finals hopes are almost certainly dashed with four games to go for the season.

The match was always set up to be a thriller with the opening quarter tussle indicative of the match. In a see-sawing game, the Cats trailed for most of the match after leading at quarter-time. Despite going into the final change trailing by three goals, the Cats clawed back but were unable to finish off.

First gamer Kade Carey, impressed in his first outing in the hoops kicking three goals in an impressive display. Captain James Byrne was unstoppable in the midfield, whilst youngsters Jason Davenport and Simon Hogan looked good in the tricky conditions.

The Cats will next week travel to Trevor Barker Beach Oval to take on Sandringham
