The Hawthorn Football Club is getting behind Walk Safely to School Day on Friday 2 May to promote the benefits of regular physical activity for children and their families to improve health and wellbeing.

Primary school students around Victoria are preparing for Walk Safely to School Day in a bid to improve their fitness and well-being while having a positive impact on the environment.

Run by the Pedestrian Council of Australia, Walk Safely to School Day is an annual national event where primary school children are encouraged to walk safely to school.

Research shows that regular walking can lift your mood, aid uninterrupted sleep, increase energy, decrease fatigue and lead to an improved sense of well-being.

Walk Safely to Schools Day is sponsored by the Australian Government and supported by each State and Territory Government, beyondblue, the Heart Foundation, Diabetes Australia, Planet Ark, the Cancer Council and Woolworths.
