An extraordinary set of circumstances has resulted in Mitch Clark looking likely to officially become a Melbourne player on Sunday morning.

After initially stating that he was only interested in heading to Fremantle during Trade Week, Clark agreed to a revised offer from Melbourne late on Saturday evening.

The Lions are now set to complete a trade with the Demons today that will see the Club snare Pick No.12 overall in next month's AFL National Draft. This will give the Lions two selections inside the top 12, which is an enviable position to be in for a compromised draft.

While the deal is yet to become official, Melbourne revealed via its Twitter account late on Saturday night that Clark would join the club on a four-year contract.

Fremantle also released a statement following the news to confirm that they would not be getting their man.

"If we were to match Melbourne's offer to Mitch it would make him the highest paid player at our club over the next four seasons and we are not prepared to compromise our list management model to achieve that outcome," Fremantle list manger Chris Bond said in the statement.

"It's disappointing that Mitch has decided not to follow through on his commitment to sign with Fremantle."

"We accept his decision and wish him all the best for the future."
