North Melbourne's defensive stocks have received a massive boost ahead of Saturday’s NAB Challenge match against Hawthorn with the return of experienced pair Michael Firrito and Brady Rawlings.

Both were rested for last week's NAB Cup opener, but will add stability down back against a dangerous Hawthorn forward-line.

Rookie Cameron Pedersen will get his chance, and with Nathan Grima and Scott Thompson still missing, he could get a dream opportunity to play on Lance Franklin or Jarryd Roughead.

Skilful youngster Aaron Mullett will hope to impress in his first game, while Sam Wright adds another dimension to an already ultra-competitive forward setup.

Brad Scott's team will face a near full-strength Hawks' squad, which has welcomed back Sam Mitchell, Jordan Lewis, Grant Birchall and former Kangaroo David Hale.
