The Collingwood Football Club has broken its all-time membership record, surpassing the 2009 mark of 46,327 on Wednesday.

The announcement comes as the club sets its sights on breaking through the 50,000 membership barrier for the first time, on its way to the stated goal of 60,000 members by 2011.

The response from supporters on the club’s 2010 campaign has been extraordinary, with the current tally of 46,659 more than 12,000 ahead of the same time last year.

Collingwood CEO Gary Pert said: “All our membership initiatives over the last two years have been based on and signed off by supporter feedback groups.

“As a result, when we’ve got it right, supporters have jumped on board in numbers the club has never experienced before.

“Since the start of 2009 the club has welcomed well over 20,000 new members, many being kids who form the future of our membership base, which is really pleasing.”

Collingwood General Manager of Membership Justin Reeves praised Magpie supporters.

“It’s testament to the phenomenal commitment and passion of Collingwood supporters that we have broken the previous membership record set in 2009,” Reeves said.

“The club decided on a membership price freeze for 2010 in response to supporter feedback, and it has clearly been a highlight of our campaign.”
