Ayen Chol was just four years old when she was mauled to death by a pit bull mastiff which had found its way into her cousin’s place. Close friends of Majak Daw and his family, the Chol’s had only just come to grips with losing their house to fire in St Albans when this latest tragedy struck.

Majak has been rocked by the horrible incident and is pleading for the football public to help support the family.

“It was shocking to hear what had happened and I want to help the family in any way I can,” Daw said.

Ayen was clinging to her mother's leg when she was ripped away by the dog and had little hope of surviving.

Her mother Jackline Ancaito said her daughter was "a loving child, and a very clever child. She died as she was struggling for her life".

Ms Ancaito and her children came to Australia from South Sudan in 2004 hoping for a safe life. Ayen’s father Mawien had relatives in South Sudan break the shocking news to him and he flew to Australia on Saturday night to be with his family.

Majak is offering a special North Melbourne jumper to be signed by he and coach Brad Scott. All proceeds will be donated to the Chol family.
